In 2023, IBIA reported a total of 184 suspicious betting alerts.

The 2023 sports betting integrity report has been published by the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), which is recognized as the primary advocate for integrity in the licensed betting sector worldwide. The IBIA highlighted a significant decline in the number of suspicious sports betting alerts.

In 2023, the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) received reports of 184 alerts, which marks a 35% decrease from the previous year’s total of 285. This is also a significant decline of 101 alerts. Additionally, the IBIA noted that the average number of annual alerts from 2019 to 2022 was 244.

Furthermore, the IBIA’s data on suspicious betting activity revealed 184 alerts and confirmed that 74 matches were compromised. Fortunately, this allowed the organization to report a rise in the amount of offenders who were penalized.

The IBIA noted that its ability to recognize and deter suspicious betting activity has increased dramatically in recent years. The organization now comprises gambling companies responsible for more than $137 billion of annual global betting turnover.

Furthermore, the most recent statistics not only showcase the enhanced IBIA capabilities, but also emphasize the significance of mandating sports betting operators to become members of a global integrity monitoring organization. The integrity expert referred to Brazil’s recent regulations as a prime illustration.

The latest data has received positive feedback from IBIA’s CEO, Khalid Ali. He stated that the numbers reflect the effectiveness of their monitoring and alert system in creating a positive impact.

Even though there has been improvement, we must stay watchful and acknowledge that the biggest danger to maintaining the integrity of sports comes from unregulated organizations, particularly in Asia.

Khalid Ali is the CEO of IBIA.

Out of all the sports, soccer and tennis had the highest number of reports.

The IBIA has reported that their notifications have resulted in the punishment of 21 clubs, players, and officials, a significant rise from the previous year’s 15. Those who were sanctioned in 2023 included 8 tennis athletes, 7 umpires, and 4 snooker players.

Although there were many tennis players who received sanctions, soccer had the most alerts with a total of 63. This is similar to the numbers from 2022 and 2021, where the IBIA reported 67 and 66 alerts related to soccer, respectively.

Tennis received the second highest number of reports with 54 alerts. This amount shows a significant decrease of 49% compared to the total of 206 in 2022.

Mr. Ali commended the reduction of tennis notifications and expressed that the IBIA will maintain a strong partnership with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) and other significant tennis organizations to pursue legal action against offenders. He concluded that the rigorous penalties implemented for recent violators have successfully deterred fraudulent behavior.
