The upcoming Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday, March 26 marks only the sixth instance in 22 years that the estimated annuitized jackpot has surpassed $1 billion. The Mega Millions Consortium, responsible for the biweekly drawings at the WSB-TV studios in Atlanta, predicts that Tuesday’s jackpot will reach $1.1 billion.


“The craze for the lottery is still going strong across the nation,” stated Gretchen Corbin, the President and CEO of the Georgia Lottery and the primary director of the Mega Millions Consortium. The Georgia Lottery is responsible for managing every Mega Millions drawing.

The Mega Millions jackpot of $1.1 billion is the fifth highest in history. The largest jackpot was won in August of last year for a total of $1.602 billion by a player in Florida.

Lottery Drought

The Mega Millions jackpot has not been won since December 8th, when two tickets sold in California split the prize of $395 million. Unfortunately, Powerball players have also been unsuccessful in winning the jackpot.

The Powerball grand prize has only been won once in the past year. The fortunate event occurred in Michigan when a player was able to claim a $842.4 million reward during the January 2nd drawing.

The Powerball lottery takes place three times a week and has a jackpot with odds of approximately 1 in 292.2 million. In comparison, the chances of winning the top prize in Mega Millions are slightly lower, at 1 in 302.5 million.

The lottery drawing for Powerball will take place at 10:59 pm ET tonight at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. This Saturday’s drawing marks the 35th in the streak of jackpot drawings.

Tonight’s jackpot prize is worth $750 million, making it the ninth-largest in the 31-year history of this game.
